Why Location Matters

The right Location will set the tone of the entire photoshoot. You can choose a big city with lots of brick buildings, back alleys, parking garages, graffiti, bridges and other concrete jungle type areas for an urban feel.

Choosing a wooded forested, river, stream or prairie will give you a very back to nature & earthy vibe.

Choosing a spot at your school like a sports field will connect you to your extracurricular activities.

Be sure to select a location that connects you to your favorite hobbies, sports or activities. Perhaps you have a favorite hangout like a movie theatre, the beach or library. Be sure to consider all of your options so you can select your favorite one or two locations to discuss with your photographer during your planning session.

Make sure to visit potential locations you are un-familar with to get a sense of space and color. Frequently I am on Google Earth checking out new & potential destination spaces. It is the perfect place to get a sense of space.

Wardrobe Selection

Selecting the perfect outfits can be a daunting task. Let’s make sure to express your style through your clothing choices. Your clothing choices should reflect your unique personality. They should be comfortable and fit well. Your clothing choices should give you confidence. I would suggest you bring a variety of outfits (casual, formal, trendy, classic). These choices are typically discussed with your photographer during the planning stages. You will want you choices to look good in the location you have selected and be sure to accessorize to enhance your look. Hats, jackets, shoes, boots, jewelry choices all are an integral part of telling your unique story.

*warning - avoid busy patterns and overly trendy items. If you have a favorite piece that falls into this category, it’s ok - we will work it into your session - but I would suggest to make sure we have a variety of timeless options to work with to reflect your personal style..

Posing to Showcase Your Personality

There is power in posing! Posing can help to convey a variety of the different aspects of your personality. Everything from confidence, playfulness, and sophistication can be relayed in your images. Natural relaxed poses often look best so I will guide you through a variety of looks with verbal coaching to get you looking your best every step of the way. You can always practice posing in front of a mirror or with a friend to find some flattering angles. Frequently some simple fies such as relaxing your hands or giving a slight angle is all that is needed to perfect a look!
