Top Tips for Stunning Senior Portraits

Are you a High School Senior wondering how to get some amazing unique images that reflect your personality all while having a great experience? Your Senior year is a milestone worth celebrating, and what better way to capture this special time than with stunning senior portraits? Whether you're looking for a classic or contemporary style, these tips will help you prepare for a portrait session that you'll cherish forever.

·      Schedule your session early

so you have time to plan out your outfits! You can always ask to add on the ever-popular spring flower session, cap and gown session, or college tee during the spring, but the spring time of your Senior year is full of activities like prom, pre-collage testing & studying, spring break activities, travel, collage applications or job interning. Just so many events and activities that you don’t want to miss that leave little to no time for planning out a cohesive photography session that captures your personality. In order to not feel stressed or rushed, I recommend a late Summer or an early Fall session. Scheduling early allows you time to determine the looks you want, to shop for the perfect outfits.  Which leads me to my next tip!

·      Accessorize!

To really add character and tell a complete story of who you are, make sure to add your favorite accessories. Your images are telling a story about a piece of your personality, so add in those favorite sunglasses, sport or hobby equipment, favorite shoes, books, hats, jacket/hoody, jewelry etc. that add unique flair to your pictures. Here at SWP we have an ever-growing style closet that you can pick some fun items from to add to your own wardrobe. We have a variety of tulle skirts, flowy dresses, hats and some fun jackets to choose from.

·      Choose your Location or Destination Experience

You will want to consider the location of your Senior portrait experience. For example, consider a destination experience if you live in a small town but your heart is in the city. Perhaps you want a wooded forestry look or a desert vibe. You will be planning and coordinating you looks and colors of your outfits to really standout in whatever location you choose. Some thought needs to go into choosing your location or locations. Not all photographers will travel for sessions so think about this prior to booking with a photographer. Additionally, location destination sessions take planning and for thought in regards to any special photography permitting that might be needed and travel planning. Summer is the perfect time for a destination location! Here at Sharon Wallace Photography we will travel to any destination to help make your session a true experience.

·      Bonus Tip! Consider professional camera-ready make-up even if you want a natural look!

I know the current trend is natural looking images, but just like in the movies or magazines a good skin prep even for a natural look is important for the camera. Today’s hi resolution sensors combined with lighting even natural light can leave the skin looking a bit rough and over sharp for still imagery as well as video, so skin prep is a priority for beautiful images. At SWP we will help you with skin prep whether you are going with pro make up or if you choose to do your own.
