California Salton Sea, Photoshoot with Model Team, Sharon Wallace Photography, Senior Pictures
Southern California’s Salton Sea provides the perfect backdrop for a photoshoot that is unlike no other. The area is always changing and has an apocalyptic vibe. The Bombay Beach area has become a mecca for artists on the edge and the perfect place for a model team photoshoot.
Oh, about the smell……….
So if you are brave enough to venture out to the Salton Sea area……. beware of the aroma. Yes, those beautiful white sand beaches are actually fish bones and this decaying body of water has the smell to prove it. It is truly a beautiful body of water but oh that smell can become overpowering.
Model Team Dream Destination
The Salton Sea area including Bombay Beach can be ever changing in artistic and apocalyptic dynamic and scenery. There is now an Artist Movement that hosts biannual and or annual events in the Spring. Frequently these artistic scenes are left for the locals and adventurers to enjoy. Sometimes they change year to year and other times there are displays that stay. For instance “The Drive-In”, “The Opra House”, and several other display’s have remained intact. You have to get out of your car and explore in order to locate many of these display’s. The colors and textures are a delight to photograph and make a amazing backdrop for a model team shoot.
So if the smell doesn’t detour you the heat might…….
So in addition to the smell, there is the heat. We are talking up to 121 degrees or higher many months of the year. This area is located in the South East corner of the state of California and very near the border of Mexico. The Sonny Bono Salton Sea National Wildlife Refuge is on the South end of the Salton Sea. The best time to visit the Salton Sea for a photoshoot is in the Springtime. The summer months are way too hot and you must take your own water with you in the desert.
